Submitted by analysa.allison on

Students from the Nebo Title VI Program had the opportunity to participate in American Indian Caucus Day at the Utah State Capitol. Students were able to visit the Transcontinental Railroad Exhibit, witnessed Legislators discuss the proposed idea of having Utah Navajo Code Talker Day, and met with Tribal Leaders.

Many of the students said they enjoyed the field trip, and want to go again next year. Koa Lee from Springville Jr High mentioned that she enjoyed seeing Legislators unanimously vote to pass August 14, 2019, as Utah Navajo Code Talker Day.  Aiyana Sherman mentioned that her favorite part of the field trip was seeing all the beautiful artwork on the walls of the capitol. Two American Indian Seniors, Macy Redhouse from Salem Hills, and Andrew Yazzie from Springville High were selected to shadow a Legislator for the day.
