Evening for Native Artists

Submitted by analysa.allison on

The Utah Division of Arts & Museums (UDAM), with the help of the BYU ARTS Partnership, is recruiting Native artists and cultural presenters to join the UDAM Native American teaching artist roster. This roster is designed to be a living repository of Native artistic experience and cultural practice. We specifically would like to invite you to come to the event being held next Monday evening. We feel your talents as Native artists and cultural presenters are something that would benefit so many. In addition to attending, we hope that you will also share this information with others that are Native Artists or cultural presenters.

At these events, hosts will work with Native artists to document, promote, and write what they need to join the Native artist roster. Hosts will take professional photos of artists and their artwork and help artists craft a statement that reflects their experience and what they are willing to contribute. Artists are encouraged to bring their regalia and artwork to be photographed.

Event Details:

·  September 20th from 5-8 pm at the Springville Museum of Art

·  October 4th from 4-7 pm at The Chase Home Museum for Folk Arts in Salt Lake City

·  October 22nd in Cedar City (time and location TBD)

Designation on the teaching roster offers the opportunity for Native artists to share their work and experience in a statewide capacity and allows organizations to see how to best utilize their skills and gifts. Artists on the teaching roster may be asked to introduce, share, and/or teach about their art and culture through presentations, workshops, and creative collaborations.
