Jr. High Presentations

Our Title VI Team was invited to present at three junior highs in our school district. At Mapleton Jr. & Springville Jr. we were able to share the significance of the round dance (friendship dance), explain Native American clothing, display Native American artifacts, share a purpose of storytelling, and address Native American contributions to global society. We have some current Title VI students present with our team to share their perspectives on being modern-day Native Americans.

At Payson Jr, our team discussed the Indian Removal Act from a Native American perspective and how this impacted Native Americans across the United States and Utah. Students were able to hear/read actual treaties made by the U.S. Gov't and empathized with experiences shared about how the Indian Removal Act impacted tribes and individuals. Though this was a heavy topic, the students were very willing to ask questions and carry on a meaningful discussion.
