Utah Community Credit Union (UCCU) has partnered with the Utah High School Athletics Association to honor a local high school student each week. The student chosen is someone who makes assisting others a priority. Tonight the UCCU Assist Scholarship is being presented to a Springville High School student, Sara Powell.
Sara Powell, a Senior here at Springville High belongs to the Kinyaa’aanii clan of the Navajo Nation. She was selected as 1 of 10 nationwide "Dreams Starters" for the 2023-2024 school year that is selected by the Running Strong for American Indian Youth organization. Her project focuses on helping native youth become more self-sufficient through traditional teachings such as harvesting fruits & vegetables, fishing, and other natural food & herb resources. Sara also enjoys fencing and all types of art. She is an active member of the SHS theater department and has been in multiple productions, with her accomplishment of being in the cast for Newsies this fall.
